Ricky Ponting

Ricky Thomas Ponting is the captain of the Australian One-Day and Test cricket teams. He is one of the world's leading batsmen in both forms of the game.

Ricky Thomas Ponting was born 19th December,1974 in Launceston, Tasmania. His father name is Graeme, played for Mowbray and mother name is Lorraine. Ricky married his long-time girlfriend, law student Rianna Cantor, in June 2002. He has himself credited her as a reason for the maturity evident in his game in recent years.
He attended school at Mowbray Primary and then Brooks Senior High School in Launceston, and then attended the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy from 1992 to 1993.

Ricky started playing cricket at age 7, and showed immediate promise. He was known to be rich in talent ever since he was 12 when he became the youngest person in the world to have a bat sponsor as he was signed by Kookaburra.

As of March 2006, he has made over 8,500 Test runs in 102 Tests at an average of over 58 with 30 centuries. In one-day international matches, Ponting has made over 9,000 runs in 250 matches at an average of 42 with a strike rate of 79.

He is seen in a television advertisement for a deodorant and anti-perspirant product Unilever's Rexona where he is shown supposedly batting against an overwhelming number of bowlers, and subsequently shows no marks or body odour.
