Dolly Rebecca Parton


Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on 19th January, 1946 in Sevierville, Tennessee. Her parents name are Robert Lee Parton and Avie Lee Owens.

She is an American country singer, songwriter, composer, author and actress. She is one of the best-known country singers in the world, recognized for her big hair, big bosom and big talent. She began writing and performing songs when she was a little girl and made her first record in 1960.

She moved to Nashville, and in 1967 released the album Hello, I'm Dolly and landed a job on Porter Wagoner's syndicated television show. . At 12 years old she was appearing on Knoxville television; at 13 she was recording on a small label and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry.

Parton's initial success came as a songwriter, with her songs being covered by Kitty Wells, Hank Willian, Jr., Skeeter Davis, and a number of others. She signed with Monument Records in late 1965, where she was initially pitched as a bubblegum pop singer, earning only one national chart single, "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby," which did not crack the Billboard Top 100. Additional pop singles also failed to chart.

In 1967, Parton was asked to join the weekly syndicated country music TV program hosted by Porter Wagoner, replacing norma Jean. She also signed with RCA Records, Wagoner's label, during this period, where she would remain for the next two decades. Despite originally being typecast in many circles as a "Country and Western" singer, Parton later had even greater commercial success as a pop singer and actress.

Parton also changed the landscape of her Tennessee stomping grounds when she opened the Dollywood theme park in 1985. It remains among the most popular vacation destinations in the South. She has also donated more than 1 million books to pre-school children across the United States and provides scholarships to high school students in Sevier County, Tenn. In return, the county honored her with a life-size statue in front of the courthouse.

On 30th May, 1966, at the age of 20, she married Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving business, in Ringgold, Georgia.
